The Technology Department delivers differentiation, scalability and security for the business. Reporting to the COO, Technology provides digital tools, software services and infrastructure globally to all business groups. Software development and support teams work in agile ‘streams’ aligned to specific business areas. Our other teams work enterprise-wide to provide critical services including our global service desk, network and system infrastructure, IT operations, security, enterprise architecture and design.

IT runs our enterprise-wide services to end users and actively manages the firm’s infrastructure and data to provide and accelerate business value. A Data team enables the firm to leverage data to increase productivity and improve business decisions, as well as maintain data compliance. Our Infrastructure group delivers operations and engineering across Infrastructure Operations, Network, Communications, Endpoint and Platform Engineering teams with a key focus on Infrastructure as Code / automation & innovation. IT also includes our global IT Service Desk providing support and self-service to business users across Marex, and our Service Management team that runs core ITSM processes and develops our departmental tooling (Jira).

Role Summary

The Head of Infrastructure is responsible for delivering Marex’s infrastructure strategy as well as ensuring services are available, resilient and secure.

Managing multiple global teams across cloud and on premise environments, Marex’s infrastructure provides the foundation for the business to operate. The Head of Infrastructure plays a significant role in defining the architecture, strategy and processes used to deliver effective change and manage efficient operations.

With the responsibility for automation evolution, inventory management processes, security, resilience, cost management (inc licensing) and the oversight of problems and risks, this role is pivotal in ensuring the required controls and delivery pipelines are in place and the organisation can grow and meet ongoing business demands.

Overall Responsibilities

Role specific:

  • The Head of Infrastructure is the system owner for the overall Cloud and OnPremise infrastructure, with overall accountability for the strategy, availability of services and costs
  • Ensuring the organisation’s infrastructure is stable, secure and resilient
  • Accountable for infrastructure architecture and infrastructure strategy / roadmap
  • Triage point for new ideas, review of innovation proposals and assess alignment with strategy, business benefit and architectural standards.
  • Accountable for overall Infrastructure project / portfolio management
  • Ensuring a clear service catalogue exist with defined ownership of services by specific teams
  • Encouraging innovation and automation within teams – make decisions on what will be worked on, and which teams should be involved
  • Leading on innovation and evolution of on modern automation and observability functions on all fronts

Infrastructure Teams:

Platform Engineering

  • Engineering of new Technology wide solutions, Development Operations, cross team coordination of new solutions.

    Network

    • Engineering and Operation of the Network estate

    Infrastructure Operations

    • Operates server and storage infrastructure as well infrastructure tooling, engaged in new solutions.

    Endpoint

    • Management of the Endpoint build and deployment process, management of the estate standards and patching.

    Communications

    • Engineering and operational responsibility for the overall voice (inc Mobile) infrastructure and standards.

    Team Responsibilities within Infrastructure:

    • Investigate and analyse infrastructure issues and come up with an action plan for a fix.
    • Analyse infrastructure processes and come up with improvements and automation.
    • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions like Terraform to automate provisioning and configuration
    • Monitor Infrastructure systems and participate in the day-to-day maintenance activities.
    • Implement and document infrastructure projects
    • Work with Jira, the ticket management system, to log time and tasks daily.
    • Follow the change control process for making changes to the production environment.
    • Train and support the Service Desk to roll out new technologies to the business.
    • Report on priority/progress/effort/cost of projects.
    • Network security design and implementation.
    • Design, support, configure, and manage servers, networks, and storage
    • Maintain and deliver reports demonstrating the health/performance of key services, issues and remediation activities
    • Contribute to architectural and design activities

    Skills and Experience

    Essential:

    • Experience of running a global infrastructure estate for a Regulated business, ideally Front Office
    • AWS Solutions Architect
    • CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)
    • Microsoft Azure Architect Expert
    • VMWare / VSphere certifications
    • CISMP (Certificate in Information Security Management Principles)
    • Experience running global follow-the-sun teams
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Team Management (cross region)

    Desirable:

    • Experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of the risk and associated compliance requirements
    • ITIL v4 Foundation
    • Project Management / Agile experience
    • Microsoft InTune experience
