Department Description

Marex Technology delivers efficiency, scalability and security for the business. The Marex Technology Department provides digital tools, software services and infrastructure globally to all business groups. Software development and support teams work in agile ‘streams’ aligned to specific business areas. Our other teams work enterprise-wide to provide critical services including our global service desk, network and system infrastructure, IT operations, security, enterprise architecture and design.

Role Summary

As a new graduate, you will have the exciting opportunity to launch your career in Financial Technology, applying your skills while receiving on-the-job coaching from our experienced technology experts. This unique combination will empower you to take charge of operational and project-related tasks within our dynamic Technology function. Located within our global Technology Hub in our London office, you will collaborate closely with a team to embark on a journey of professional growth applying business management best practice across key facets of a modern technology organisation, within a fast-paced environment.

The Technology Governance Graduate role is based within the Governance function. Technology Governance is responsible for defining Technology-wide standards, controls and reporting to ensure the Technology business is operating effectively and meeting its financial, strategic, assurance and regulatory obligations. The area covers Technology Strategy & Planning, Risk and Controls, Business Resilience, IT Service Continuity and Enterprise Architecture. Common across all disciplines is the drive to introduce and oversee effective frameworks and principles, meet governance requirements without negatively impairing productivity and improve predictability and efficiencies within Technology. Key to this is data quality and visibility of various indicators to support management information and reporting.


Overall Responsibilities

During the two year graduate programme, the Technology Governance Graduate will complete four rotations of six month duration to gain exposure and skills and deliver value across all four functional disciplines, supporting the development of enhanced management reporting:

  • Risk management
  • Strategy & planning (including cost and resource management)
  • Enterprise architecture
  • Business resilience

In each rotation, you will start by learning the fundamentals on the job and then building your experience over time to be able to take on analyst-appropriate levels of the following responsibilities:

Risk & Controls

  • Identify potential technology risks and help with developing mitigation strategies
  • Maintain the Technology risk register
  • Support the Technology Supplier Management Cycle
  • Support coordination of Technology Audit Cycles

Strategy & Planning

  • Analyse and report on technology spend, savings and budget management
  • Support Technology’s resource planning and talent acquisition sourcing/monitoring
  • Support reporting and strategic governance to ensure Technology delivery meets strategic goals
  • Provide analysis and planning support to portfolio management of the Technology change delivery book of work

Enterprise Architecture

  • Help develop and implement Architectural strategies
  • Review and enforce enterprise architecture governance processes
  • Analyse and document technology standards, patterns and best practices
  • Work with business and IT teams to understand business processes, challenges, and technology needs
  • Evaluate solution architecture designs ensuring compatibility and compliance with enterprise architecture

Business Resilience & Service Continuity

  • Maintain and improve the Firm’s resilience programs to ensure the business continuity and operational resilience arrangements are fit for purpose, embedded and in line with risk appetite
  • Support local coordinators to deliver against business resilience objectives to ‘prepare, respond and adapt’ in the event of disruption
  • Horizon scan for threats to the organisation and applicable external framework obligations (legal, regulatory)

  • Adhere to the operational risk framework for your role ensuring that all regulatory or company determined parameters are complied with

  • To ensure that you are fully aware of and adhere to internal policies that relate to you, your role or any other activities for which you have any level of responsibility

  • To provide input to risk management processes, as required

Skills and Experience

  • Degree educated 2:1 or higher
  • Interest in technology and technology industry trends
  • Analytical thinking to breakdown complex problems into manageable tasks
  • Microsoft office toolset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Desirable - knowledge of working in a regulated environment and an understanding of the risks and compliance requirements associated with this
