Role Summary

The Graduate Trainee is a member of the Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) function which is part of the second line of defence. The primary objective of FCC is to ensure the Marex Financial complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to financial crime and sanctions.

A generalist role within the firm’s Financial Crime team supporting in implementing, embedding, and assuring all aspects of the financial crime framework. This role will also provide an opportunity to engage with key stakeholders across the business.


Overall Responsibilities

Supporting the Financial Crime team in implementing, embedding, and assuring all aspects of the financial crime framework including (but not limited to):

  • Governance
    • Establishing a credible profile as a Financial Crime representative with key stakeholders.
    • Assisting in the preparation of materials for the Financial Crime Committee.
  • Framework Documents
    • Providing support to the Financial Crime team in the production of all applicable policies and standards.
  • Risk Assessments
    • Supporting the MLRO/DMLRO/Snr. Financial Crime Manager(s) in the execution of periodic Enterprise-Wide Financial Crime Risk Assessment(s).
  • Monitoring & Screening
    • Assisting with the Financial Crime Monitoring Programme covering processes such as Ongoing Customer Screening, Transaction Monitoring and Payment Screening.
  • Advisory & Escalations
    • Supporting the Financial Crime team in providing financial crime and sanctions advice to the business and senior management.
    • Supporting the review and approval of new and existing high - risk relationships where required.
  • Training
    • Supporting the implementation of an effective group wide training programme including the delivery of face-to-face training as appropriate.
  • Management Information
    • Supporting the production of operational and strategic financial crime Management Information.
  • Assurance
    • Supporting the execution the annual financial crime assurance plan (as applicable).
    • Supporting the controls operational effective testing and reviews on key controls across all applicable group entities.
  • Business Change
    • Supporting the assessment of all Business change initiatives by Financial Crime including New Acquisitions.

  • Reporting any breaches of policy to Compliance and/ or your supervisor as required.
  • Escalating risk events immediately.
  • Providing input to risk management processes, as required.

    Skills and Experience

    • Undergraduate degree achieved at a minimum 2:1 grade*.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent excel & Microsoft skills to develop and report MI.
    • Detail oriented and the ability to work to tight deadlines using your own initiative and prioritise own workload.
    • A willingness to undertake formal Financial Crime training/accreditation to enhance specialist financial crime knowledge.
    • Basic understanding of financial markets and instruments would be an advantage.
