Purpose of Role:

The Operational Risk Associate is responsible for assisting the Firm in identification, evaluation, control testing, and management of operational risk, whilst supporting risk strategy and driving proactive operational risk culture. The role assists in the implementation of the Operational Risk Management Framework in North America, a priority of the region. This is a key role where the development of successful and supportive relationships with key stakeholder across several business disciplines is required.

The Risk Department is responsible for assessing and managing various financial risks that Marex may face. The department employs analytical tools to monitor and mitigate potential threats. By implementing robust risk management practices, the department contributes towards maintaining Marex’s overall financial stability. The Risk Department consists of the following teams: Operation Risk, Change Risk & Assurance, Governance, Privacy, Credit Risk, Market Risk, and Clearing Risk.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with business areas, specifically in North America in the ongoing buildout of the operational risk profile.
  • Work to provide an accurate reflection of information and challenge and escalate where appropriate.
  • Lead Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) while driving continuous improvement across the region.
  • Responsible for control testing and working with stakeholders on control gaps and remediation.
  • Monitor and report on risk events and operational losses, document resulting new controls, complete operational risk impact assessment, and escalate into management as appropriate.
  • Assist in the rollout of the Operational Risk Management Framework individual components.
  • Responsible for creation of operational risk reporting to relevant governance for senior management.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to embed a positive risk culture.
  • Promote an effective risk presence and risk sessions with front office, and senior management.
  • Monitor and escalate appropriate risks and control gaps/weaknesses.
  • Produce and maintain risk appetite metric reporting and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to provide strategic insight into operational risk at Marex.
  • Promote information sharing and integrated assurance view between lines of defences.
  • Support integration and post integration efforts related to new acquisitions.
  • Design and implement scenarios analysis for significant operational risks.
  • Ensuring compliance with the company’s regulatory requirements under the SEC, FINRA, NFA, CFTC and other applicable exchanges.
  • Adhere to the operational risk framework for your role ensuring that all regulatory or company determined parameters are complied with.

Skills and Experience

  • A least four to six (4-6) years of cumulative experience in operational risk, compliance, or internal control roles in Financial Services.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong risk and control knowledge.
  • Good knowledge of Framework methodology and practice.
  • Effective report writing
  • Strong Excel, Word, PowerPoint skills and experience in the use of internal IT systems.
  • Use of GRC and PowerBI tools desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of the risk and compliance requirements associated with this.
