Role Summary

To assist the Legal team with management of legal risk arising from the Marex Solutions OTC derivatives business and advise the business directly on legal and regulatory issues that impact OTC derivatives.

Responsibilities

The duties of the role will include (but not be limited to) the following:

  • Drafting and negotiating various trading agreements including ISDA, CSA, GMRA, GMSLA and Confirmations.
  • Providing advice directly to the desk on queries and disputes arising from OTC transactions.
  • Reviewing contractual rights in the context of day-today operations and in stress and close-out situations.
  • Reviewing viability of new product types and structures and the legal issues arising therefrom.
  • Review of jurisdictional requirements for cross-border activity the business wish to undertake.
  • Liaising with external and internal stakeholders and clients, both in the UK and overseas (including external counsel, the internal trading desk, other control and support departments and various agents).
  • Assisting the Legal department with other urgent or ad hoc matters from time to time.

Skills and Experience

  • A Qualified Lawyer with suitable post-qualification experience of up to 1 year*, ideally with experience of working in-house;
  • A strong and broad understanding of financial markets and products;
  • Derivatives experience within any product group is essential; experience with or understanding of structured products is a plus;
  • Excellent organisation skills; Good written and oral communication skills; Ability to present complex issues concisely and clearly to the business;
  • Intellectually curious and keen to learn about new products and legal structures;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Good team player;
  • Flexible (i.e.: ability to adapt to change/approach to work, ability to multi-task);
  • Able to work well under pressure;
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Strong academic results, including 2.1 or above at degree level.
