Department Description

The Technology Infrastructure Graduate role is based within the Infrastructure function within our IT group. IT runs our enterprise-wide services to end users and actively manages the firm’s infrastructure and data to provide and accelerate business value. Our Infrastructure teams work globally to monitor and maintain our infrastructure and network systems to ensure maximum uptime and service delivery to the business. Infrastructure Engineers apply specialist on-premise and cloud technology expertise to build, improve and upgrade our infrastructure systems across multiple platforms including VMware and AWS. Network Engineers design, operate and maintain our network, ensuring we keep pace with security best practices aligned with financial compliance and regulations. This function is also focused on leveraging automation and platform tools to integrate and optimise our core operations across both on-prem and cloud environments.


Role Summary

As a Technology Graduate, you will have the exciting opportunity to launch your career in Financial Technology, applying your skills while receiving on-the-job coaching from our experienced technology experts. This unique combination will empower you to take charge of operational and project-related tasks within our dynamic Technology function. Located within our global Technology Hub in our London office, you will collaborate closely with a team to embark on a journey of professional growth building products and services across key facets of a modern technology organisation, within a fast-paced environment.


Overall Responsibilities

The Infrastructure Graduate will complete three rotations during the two year graduate programme, completing circa eight month placements with the Infrastructure Operations team, the Network team and the Platform Engineering team.

You will start by learning the fundamentals on the job and then building your experience over time to be able to take on analyst-appropriate levels of the following responsibilities:

Infrastructure

  • Investigate and analyse infrastructure issues and come up with an action plan for a fix.
  • Analyse infrastructure processes and come up with improvements and automation.
  • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions like Terraform or Ansible to automate provisioning and configuration
  • Monitor Infrastructure systems and participate in the day-to-day maintenance activities.
  • Implement and document infrastructure projects
  • Work with Jira, the ticket management system, to log time and tasks daily.
  • Follow the change control process for making changes to the production environment.
  • Train and support the Service Desk to roll out new technologies to the business.
  • Report on priority/progress/effort/cost of projects.
  • Network security design and implementation.
  • Design, support, configure, and manage servers, networks, and storage
  • Maintain and deliver reports demonstrating the health/performance of key services, issues and remediation activities
  • Contribute to architectural and design activities

    Skills and Experience

    • Degree educated (Technology based) / BEng/Bsc or equivalent
    • Experience of coding in a programming/scripting language.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Desirable - knowledge of working in a regulated environment and an understanding of the risks and compliance requirements associated with this
